National Science day 2019
National Science Day is known for Sir ChandrasekharaVenkata Raman, Indian Physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics recognised for his work on the molecular scattering of light and for the discovery of the Raman Effect, which is named after him. 28th Feb. is celebrated as National Science Day in India in commemoration of the discovery of Raman Effect which won him and to the country the first Nobel Prize in 1930 in Physicsfor his work on the scattering of light and the said discovery,Government of India started observing this day with an aim to create positive attitude towards science for the betterment of the people. He has invented many of the Technologies and Techniques to handle and tackle every task comfortably and accuratelyfor “work on the scattering of light and the said discovery is named after him.”
Objectives-
1) To create awareness and develop love and compassion for Science.
2) To enhance creativity of students.
3) To develop curiosity for various natural phenomenon taking place and to satisfy the same
throughhands on activities.
4) To promote development of Science talents through quizzes, competitions and screening of audio-visual programmes.
The Goa State Council for Science and Technology celebrated (observed) National Science Day 20/02/2019 (28/02/2019) at Goa Chambers of Commerce & Industries, Panaji, Goa.Around 26 schools (80) participants mainly teachers and Students are attended the programme. At the beginning, the State Coordinator Shri.SanjeevChodankar welcomed the gathering and briefed out the importance of the day and highlighted the contribution of great Scientist Sir. C. V. Raman towards his development of Science. To give respect and tribute to such a great man C. V. Raman, garlanding their photos with the hands of Resource Person Mr. Daryl D’Souza, Mr.KalidasSaterdekar, Teacher, Govt. High School, Sadar, Ponda, Shri. Deepak Parab, Member Secretary and other officials of the State Council.
The Resource Person Mr. Daryl D’Souza, the founder of Earth Keeper connect is an engineer, Therapist, Educator, Organic gave a talk on the Wellness in Mind, Body & Spirit.
On this occasion Quiz competition and Poster competition was conducted. The quiz is on general science and Poster competitions is on My Activities towards Clean and Green School.

1) S.S. Angle Higher Secondary School hosts two days Science Day Celebration.
S.S..Angle Higher Secondary School, MashemCanacona Goa, regularly organizes various activities for the promotion of Science and to inculcate the Scientific temperament amongst the students. This year we had planned a CanaconaTaluka level event with a number of activities on the Main theme for this year i.e. “Science and Technology for a Clean, Green and Healthy Nation” at our institute on 26th and 27th February 2019.
Total 18 Educational institutes were invited to participate in the various events organized on the occasion. The event received overwhelming response from all the schools and Higher secondary schools from CanaconaTaluka. The competitions were held with science-based theme in the events like skit, science song singing, Elocution, science project and cloth painting.The specialty of the event was, the innovative topic was given to the students for each event and the students or the teachers of the school had to write the script.
The topic for the Elocution competition was“what I would change if I could and why …

The two days event was attended by the students and Teachers from schools and Higher secondary schools from Canacona. Total 242 participants and 50 Teachers participated in the two days event. The Manager of ShriNirakar Education Society, Mrs UrmilaLolyekar and Principal of S.S.Angle Higher Secondary School, Mr.JairamGaonkar and programme coordinator Mrs ChandralekhaMestri inaugurated the function. Principal J.K Gaonkar highlighted the importance of the day and urged the students to be curious and observant in order to come up with innovative and scientific inventions.The events were held simultaneously at three different venue in the school campus.
The Elocution competition was judged by Mr J.K Gaonkar , Mr Anthony Barreto and Mr VasaloCarvalho.Science project competition was judged by Dr.SantoshVernekar, Miss ShachiLolyekar and Mr PrashantKholkar.Skit Competition was judged by Dr.CajyD’silva , Mr SharendraNaik and Mr Nanda Satarkar.Group singing competition was judged by Mrs UrmilaLolyekar, Mrs Swati Naik andMrs. Elvira Fernandes.Cloth painting competition was judged by Mr. Manoj Prabhugaonkar, Mr AnketMhalshi, Mr.LaxmanPrabhugaonkar and Mrs RehanaFondekar.
This year is being celebrated as the centenary year of Dr.Vikram Sarabhai. So, a talk was organized for the participants on the topic, Vikram Sarabhai and Advancement in Space Science. Mr SujeetkumarDongre delivered a lecture on the topic.Posters based on the life of Indian Scientist, Plants and the posters based on Insects life were displayed at the venue for the benefit of the participants. The entire venue was decorated using eco- friendly material.
Prizes were announced on the second day of the event. Mrs Brenda Fernandes from Goa state council of science, technology and environment and Mr SujeetkumarDongre from CEE, were the chief guest for the prize presentation ceremony.

Science Project: First Prize- ShriNirakarVidhyalaya, Second Prize: Gurukul High School, third prize is shared by ShriDamodarVidhyalaya and ShriKatyaniBaneshwar School.
Group Singing: First prize- ShriKatyaniBaneshwar School, Second prize- ShriDamodarVidhyalaya, Third prize- ShriMallikarjun High School.
Skit: first prize- ShriDamodarVidhyalaya, Second Prize- ShriNirakarVidhyalaya, third prize is shared by ShriMallikarjun High School and ShriShraddhanandVidhyalaya.
The Event was organized by S.S.Angle Higher Secondary School in collaboration with Goa State Council of Science and Technology.
The program was planned and executed by the programme coordinator Mrs ChandralekhaDamodarMestri. The entire team of S.S.Angle Higher Secondary School took efforts to make the event successful.
2) St. Michael’s Convent High School, Anjuna-Vagator, Bardez, Goa.

St. Michael’s Convent High School, Anjuna-Vagator, celebrated the National Science Day on 28th February 2019 in collaboration with Goa State Council for Science and Technology, Saligao. The theme for the year was “Science for the People and the People for Science” highlighted the importance of science in our day to day life. The Science Club members prepared the science wall board which gave a glance of the world of science for practical living. The day began by invoking God’s blessings with a prayer service titled “To be grateful is to affirm goodness wherever we go”.
The programme began by a welcome address by Master Om Dabholkar. It was followed by garlanding of the portrait of C.V. Raman at the hands of our Headmistress Rev. Sr. LiberataFernandes. The compares for the day were Master ShahidShaikh and Miss EshaPorob. Master ManjunathChawan spoke on the importance of the day. The Headmistress addressed the gathering and encouraged the students with her inspiring words.
The day was honoured by the presence of the distinguished guest, our very own ex- science teacher, Mr.PadmanabhLotlikar, A National Awardee for many of his science projects. He demonstrated creatively few science experiments which aroused curiosity among students with simple innovation. Mr. Darryl D’Souza, a TEDx speaker and an organic farmer was invited to deliver a talk on the topic “Organic and Healthy Choices for a healthy life.” He encouraged the students to eat home cooked healthy food over processed food. He also gave many alternatives to the unhealthy food we have been consuming.
In observance to this day various activities like Inter House Science Quiz and poster competition on this year’s theme, a PowerPoint Presentation on the topic: A tribute to Scientists, Science experiment demonstration were held. The poster competitions were held in two categories i.e. Junior and Senior category. Three students demonstrated science experiments, two of whom represented the district level INSPIRE MANAK award. These students were awarded the appreciation certificates with a token of appreciation. The winners of various competitions were awarded with the merit certificates and a token of appreciation while the participants were awarded the participation certificates. The Science Club was awarded as the best Science Club by the Marathi VidnyanParishad on 23rd of February 2019 and the same certificate was handed over to the club by our Headmistress Rev. Sr. LiberataFernandes along with Mr. Darryl D’Souza. The vote of thanks was proposed by Master Croslee D’Souza the President of the Science Club.
3) Poira High School, Poira, Bicholim, Goa.
A State level Science Exhibition was held at Poira High School. The programme was catalysed and supported by National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Govt. of India, New Delhi with support of Goa State Council for Science & Technology – Saligao Goa, Goa state Biodiversity Board – Saligao Goa & Centre for Environment Education – Porvorim Goa, on observance of National Science Day (28th Feb).
It was held on 4th& 5th April 2019 in the premises of Poira High School, Poira Goa. The exhibition was conducted in 3 categories namely 1) Poster Making Competition 2) Science Project 3) Teaching Aid. There was a good response to the exhibition as 22 schools participated in it.
On the first day for the inauguration was done at the hands of Mr.DilipGhatwal Chairman of the school and Mr.ChandrakantHaldankar Chairman of Poira Education Trust in presence of Shri. Pramod Kumar Maurya – Scientist at Marine instrumentation Division – NIO, Mr. Deepak Parab – Member Secretary Goa state Council for Science & Technology, Mr. Shankar Chodankar (ZP North Goa), Mrs.NamitaTari – Local Panch, Mr.SanjeevChodankar, Coordinator Goa State Council for Science & Technology, Mr.KashinathMayekar P.T.A. Chairman. The formal function took place by lighting of the lamp and garlanding the portrait of Dr. C. V. Raman. Mr.SantoshGaonkar Headmaster Poira High School welcomed the gathering and gave introductory speech. Mr.DayanandGhatwal introduced the Keynote Speaker and other dignitaries on the dais. Mr.ShankarChodankar(ZP North),Mr.SanjeevChodankar, Coordinator Goa State Council for Science & Technology, and Mr.DeepakParab, Member Secretary of Goa state Council for Science and Technology spoke on the occasion. Finally vote of thanks was presented by a Teacher Mr.SubhashSalgaonkar. The program was compared by Mrs.RichaPunalekar and Mrs.Megha Desai.
After the inaugural function there was a talk by keynote speaker- Shri. Pramod Kumar Maurya on under water Robots. His message to the student was that, everyone is been scientist if they keep the curiosity active, they will take the science & technology in India to new level. After the talk all the dignitaries visited the exhibits. After lunch the exhibition was open to the visitors and judging. On first day judging of Poster competition and teaching aid competition was done. The judge for poster competition was Mr.RajmohanShetye and for Teaching aid competition were Mr.UdaiSawaikar and Mr.PradeepMasurkar (National Awardee Teacher).
Simultaneously teachers were engaged in seminar on the topic Science through commons eye. The resource person for this seminar was Mr.UdaiMandrekar – Bird man of Goa. Mr.UdayMandrekar owns a small boat at charao. He takes tourists from the world on bird watching expeditions around Dr.Salim Ali Bird century. He learned about birds from the bird watchers and now has a wide range of information about the birds. He shared his knowledge with teachers during the seminar.
On Day one i.e. on 4th April 2019 Mr. Manoj Sawaikar Dy. Director of North Education Zone visited the science exhibition. On same day Dayanand High School – Charao and Vijayanand High School TikhazanMayem visited the exhibition. Tea & evening snacks were provided to all the participating students and teachers and first day was wind up at 04:30 pm.
Day two i.e. 5th April 2019 started with morning snacks at 9:00 am and the exhibits were open to public and judging from 09:30 am onwards. The judging of science projects was done on this day by the judges Mrs.ShradhaRangnekar and Mrs.MadhuraBandekar. Parallel session for the teachers ‘Science through commons eye” was on topic preparation of Natural Colours. Resource person for this session was Mr.SuryakantGaonkar. Many people visited the exhibition during morning hours. Some eminent person to visit was Dr.PradeepSarmokadam – Member Secretary – Goa State Biodiversity Board. Headmasters and Teachers of various High Schools also visited the programme.

Post lunch session valedicdtory function was held and Prizes were distributed to various winning schools at the hands of Chief Guest Dr. Mohan Girap – Scientist – C – Goa State Pollution Control Board. Other guests were Dr.DayanandRao – Doctor at Goa Medical Collage Bambolim, Dr.SujitkumarDongre – Scientist, Centre for Environment Education, Mrs.KundaMandrekar – Sarpanch Village PanchayatMayeVainguinim. Mr.Santosh N. Gaonkar, Head master of the poira school introduced and welcomed the guests. Dr.SujitkumarDongre, Dr.DayanadRao and Dr. Mohan Girap spoke on the ocassion.
Dr.DayanandRao Congratulated school and Mr.SantoshGaonkar for winning National Teacher’s Award. He also appreciated Poira High School Team for conducting such wonderful science exhibition which helps in building creativity among the children and bring out their inherent talent.
Dr. Mohan R. Girap Chief Guest spoke on the role of ‘Science and technology (S&T)’ in everyday perspective. He shared that S&T is like a coin which has two sides…. one side represent theoretical knowledge while, other side is its practical application. Further, he stressed the need to use this ‘coin’ for better application to address ‘Environment’. This, he reiterated that S, T & E need to go hand-in-hand for the betterment of not only mankind but also, for sustenance of paryavaran.
Lastly, he urged the students to think ‘Out-of-Box’ while addressing any subject or topic. While doing so, one has to be very vigil, attentive and curious enough to ask questions, such as Why, How, When and Where? Be a ‘friend’ of your parents and a good ‘observer’ of a teacher, he urged. Lastly, he congratulated the students who participated at the State-level NSD programme organised by Poira H. S., and praised the efforts put in by Headmaster – Mr.SantoshGaonkar to make it a grand success with participation from over 30 educational institutions across the State.
The work done by the volunteers Mr.SangamTari, Mr.RupeshArondekar, Mr.AlokkothambikarMr.VishnuDhargalkar, Mr.MortuThanekar, Mr.AbhiPolle, Mr.SanjayKarbotkar and Mr.PurshottamPrabhugaonkar were appreciated at the hands of the Guests.
4) New English High School, Kundaim
Observance of National Science Day.
1. Preserving the Species Snake- — Awareness show for students.
The Students, teachers and PTA members have witnessed the live show of Snake, their usefulness and the care and awareness to safeguard these snakes species for protecting Nature. Mr.Charan Desai, Miss. ShrutiKawlekar, Miss. GayatriBakhale and Mr.SandeshAmonkar, Presented the practical and aware the students.
2. Awareness about hygiene sanitation, Nutrition, Health, cleanliness
WE have arranged the lectures of Nutritionist, Experts Bio-Sphere, Doctors fruit carving hygiene, sanitation for the students, social groups members, Club Etc.
3. Quiz based on Science programmes in various schools for the High
School and Primary School Students. With the help of Govt. High School, Savai-Verem and our complex schools, Mr ArjunNaique was the lecturer who gave lecture. Mast.SaurabhZha won first prize in Quiz competition.
4. Vermi Compost Pit.
Being the village Area whose main occupation if farming we have in built the project of Vermi- compost. The fertilizers prepared will be supplied to the farms and orchards throughout the village. Shri.Rahul Kulkarni and his associates from Agriculture Department Ela Old Goa.Guided about the project.
5. Science Exhibition/ Projects/ Charts/ Models for Government High School Savoi- Verem., Navyugniketan school, St. Inez Panaji, Govt. Primary School, Manaswada, and Govt. High School, Cuncoliem were the participant Schools. Students Demonstrated Scientific Projects, Models and Experiments.
6. Skit competition/ VigyanBalAnandMelava for the Primary Schools of PondaTaluka, NavyugNiketan school, St. Inez Panaji, and Std, Vth students of High School by various creative Activities and competitions. Miss. SacchiZha participated and own first prize in nursery rhy of Govt. School of Manaswada Miss. Mayuri Thakur won first prize in Story telling

Paswan gave lecture on nutrition to parents and teachers.Dr.Shri, GurudasSawant and Dr.TusharDhond from Primary Health Centre, Madkai gave lecture on Health and Hygeine.
7. MahilamandalMelava.For NavdurgaMahilaMandal, Self-help groups arranged lectures by Dr.Mrs.AditiMahajan from Aurvedic College Shiroda- Goa, delivered lectures on health and hygiene to the Audience of NavdurgaMahiladindiPathak,Cundaim.
Celebration of Science Day.
With the Govt. High School Savoi-Verem and in New English School, Kundai on 28th February celebrated National Science Day by Exhibitions, Lectures and Speeches. Mr.SarveshAvadi from Funs club Margao entertained the students by fun science games Miss. VishnaviKamat and Miss. Trisha Gaude, Miss.AvaniNaikandSaurabhZhaParticipated in Science Day function at Govt. High School, Savoi-Verem. Competitionon Nutrition diet for parents and students was organized. Mrs.ChandaNaik and Mrs.SukantiNaik were the judges.
With the financial superficiality we had arranged programmes to uplift the child, social groups and teachers so also students to shine in the commercial world.
