Study cum Exposure visit to National Agricultural Science Museum (NASM), ICAR Complex, New Delhi from 5th Dec. – 10th Dec. 2016.

Twenty-five Higher Secondary Class IX Science students were shortlisted by organising Science Quiz at School level and then at the State level. Upon approval from the State Government, a group of 25 students from various academic institutions, 05 teachers and 02 GSCST officials visited the National Agricultural Science Museum (NASM), New Delhi. National Agricultural Science Museum (NASM), the saga of Indian Agriculture was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the then President of India on 3rd November 2004. NASM situated in the complex of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi is unique in concept and only one of its kind is spread over 2000 sq. m. The development of Indian Agriculture since the pre-historic age to the present is displayed in vibrant detail. The museum is open for visitors on all days from 10:30 hrs to 16:30 hrs. except Monday. Interesting information on agriculture especially for children isprovided in the museum. Another special feature of this museum is to provide complete knowledge on the subject through easy and interactive audio-visual medium.

There are 150 exhibits categorised under the following 10 major sections.

  • Universal Issues relating to Agriculture

  • Children’s Section

The official from the NASM welcomed all the participants and after completing all the routine official procedure, explained the developments in Agriculture sector among the Indian Society documented and displayed through audio-visuals. All the participants then took a round through all the above 10 sections and gained valuable knowledge on the subject through attractive and user-friendly format.

After having a round through all the sections an audio-visual presentation of 16 minutes, a documentary film on agricultural festivals of India was shown to the participants. Annual festival related to agriculture in various social and cultural traditions

of the country, such as Pongal, Chat Pooja, Onam, PushkarMela, Baishakhi, Dusshera, Tribal Dance etc. have been shown in this documentary.

Water cycle is a main centre of attraction in which water cycle has been explained and is exhibited in the form of animation. After visiting the museum, the participants were

taken to the field wherein the ICAR Scientist explained about the Polyhouse and its purpose, and the types of plants grown under its environment. The students also interacted with scientist and gained useful knowledge on Agriculture.

The team then visited India International Science Festival – 2016, organised by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi,National Science Centre, etc. Overall the trip was successful. The students gained lot of knowledge about the development in the Agriculture sector, Science & Technology etc.
