Earth Day 2018

Earth day is the largest, most widely celebrated International event and it is celebrated on April 22 every year, it provides a chance to remember what an amazing planet we live on. It is the only planet in our solar system teeming with incredible biodiversity. People all over the world celebrates and make efforts to protect planet and its environment.

Objectives:

  • To make public aware the importance of our planet
  • To make aware of environmental issues such as Global warming and depleting resources
  • To motivate them to plant a tree every year, switch off light when not in use, use recyclable bags for grocery shopping etc.

This year the Goa state Council for Science & Technology, Saligao with the financial support from the Department of Science & Technology celebrated the Earth day.

Earth day was celebrated by undertaking cleanliness drive on Coco beach with the help of local Coordinator Rev. Fr. Bolmex Pereira, Panch member of Nerul Village Panchayat and the local villagers. The beach cleaning drive was stated with welcome address by Mr. Francisco Lucas, official from the Goa State Council for Science & Technology, he highlighted that we should concerned about our mother earth and to protect our surrounding environment. Cleanliness was drive undertaken with the guidance of Mr.SanjeevChodankar and Mr. Ramesh Pednekar officials from GSCST.

Around 30 participants took part in the beach cleaning drive along with Rev. Fr. Bolmex Pereira and his Assistant of Our Lady of Remedios Church, Nerul, necessary safety gears like hand gloves, face mask and garbage bags was given to the participants to collect the waste materials from the beach, refreshment is also given to the participants and the programme was ended with vote of thanks by Mr.Sanjeev Chodankar.
